Shan-Chi Hsu is a Taiwanese concert pianist and a chamber musician. Her performances have taken her to major venues including the National Concert Hall in Taiwan, Alte Oper Frankfurt, NDR Sendesaal Hannover, and KKL Lucerne, as well as to festivals such as the Stresa Festival, Gaudeamus Festival, and the Lucerne Festival.

Born in Taiwan, Shan-Chi began playing the piano and cello at a young age, and soon became a student of Rolf-Peter Wille. Later she moved to Germany and received her Bachelor, Master and Konzertexamen degrees at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover under the guidance of Prof. Bernd Goetzke. She received further musical impulses from prominent artists such as Sir András Schiff, Menahem Pressler, Robert Levin and Fou Ts’ong, and was praised for her sensitive and mature interpretation and a distinct performance style.

As an active pianist and an engaging chamber musician, Shan-Chi has given concerts across Europe and Asia. She has performed at festivals including the Stresa Festival, the Impuls Festival, and the Emil Gilels Foundation Festival; she has appeared as soloist with the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra, Pforzheim and the National Symphony Orchestra, Taipei. Shan-Chi is the recipient of “The Cultural Youth Ambassador Music Talent Award” from the Taiwanese government, the prestigious 31th CHIMEI Cultural Foundation Artist Award in Taiwan, the Scholarship for Contemporary Music from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and the “Deutschlandstipendium” in Germany.

Besides piano solo, Shan-Chi takes great inspiration from harpsicord and Lied Interpretation, and has worked with Zvi Meniker, Michael Borgstede and Jan-Philip Schulze. She also has a profound interest in contemporary music, and her passion for modern music was supported particularly by her studies with Pierre-Laurent Aimard at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. She was selected to be the pianist of the International Ensemble Modern Akademie in Frankfurt, Germany for the season 2023/2024; they performed in major new music festivals including the Wittener Tagen für Neue Kammermusik, Time of Music Festival in Viitasaari, Finland, and the Lucerne Festival. They premiered over 20 new works, and their performances have been broadcast by WDR, HR and SWR.

She was a teacher for the piano department at HMTMH from 2021-2024.
